How Will I get Started?

The following are my goals for the next 6-12 months using my strategy and moving toward my Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG)!

Continue my Blog

Continue to write and publish thoughts around online community technology and my training in Iaido at least once a week on my BLOG site. This will include writing at least 5 case studies around people and organisations that I have helped through my knowledge of building social networks, online strategy and technology adoption.  I will be contacting and having some more in depth conversations with those I have helped and the case studies are about to help me write these. I am also going to publish some video tutorials and share some how-tos around technology and web development.

Make the move to wellington

Within the next 6-7 months as there are more opportunities for my partner for work in the film and theatre industry also a lot of great IT/Web development companies. I will be researching and finding the top 10 companies in Wellington and approaching them as to my move and skill set to find a place that will fit in with my core values and purpose to further my career.  There are also possibilities to continue my current position or to freelance to that company through remote working via the Internet. I will be discussing this with my current employers within the next 2 months.

Explore interventions to increase positive self-talk

I find my biggest barrier to getting things done is having continued motivation, particularly I would like to improve my ratio of positive to negative internal self talk and my tendency to procrastinate.  Within the next month I am planning on looking into ideas around building a set of positive affirmation statements that I can on a daily basis repeat, I am hoping that this will help me improve challenging my thoughts and motivation to complete my goals.

Continue my study

Study towards B. Com or similar degree part time either on campus or through distance learning.  I intend to do at least 1 paper a semester. I am interested in Massey University particularly their Bachelor of business studies (Business Information Systems) that I came across recently. This degree is less focused on computer science and more on the management of people, strategy and business models within this industry which for me are all strengths. Particularly of interest is the dedicated paper focused around online communities. I will contact them before the end of the year to enquire and find out which of my current credits I can transfer towards this degree.  I will be looking to reward myself once my degree is complete with a trip to Japan with my partner.

Submit a project and attend the 2010 X:Media:Lab

Submit a project and attend the 2010 X:Media:Lab conference workshops and continue to build my network of mentors, thought leaders and others in the technology industry. In the next 12 months I will be looking to find others with similar passions to me around technology and put together a creative digital media project.  Attending the conference is a reward in itself as I an able to have great conversation with my peers about topics that I am passionate about.  It's a think tank where new visions of the future emerge which in itself is very exciting and rewarding.
